Walking separately, together.

Kiltwalk's No.1 priority is to raise funds now for those who need it most.

Exciting news from the Kiltwalk!

We're all disappointed that we can't walk together at the 2020 Dundee Kiltwalk but Sir Tom Hunter, and all of us at Kiltwalk, haven’t forgotten about the incredible charities you support.

The COVID19 pandemic is having a devastating effect on our charities at a time when they need us more than ever.

In true Kiltwalk spirit, we have developed a new way for you to fundraise for the charities you care about!

We are staging our first ever Virtual Kiltwalk for Dundee Kiltwalkers on the 3rd - 5th of July and all monies raised will be paid out early to your chosen charity plus a 50% top up from Sir Tom Hunter*.

Join us in 'stepping up' for the charities you know and love in Dundee, Angus and North Fife.

*The 50% fundraising top up will be granted up to a limit of £5,000 per walker or donor. Subject to deadline and trustee approval.

What is it all about

What is the Virtual Dundee Kiltwalk?

A Kiltwalk challenge for you to complete separately at home or in your local area. Similar to a Kiltwalk, you can don some tartan and complete a walking challenge to raise money for your chosen charity and Sir Tom Hunter will top up all funds raised by 50%. We have suggested you complete your challenge over the weekend of 3rd – 5th July but you can complete it before if you wish. All fundraising must be collected in by July 7th and we will then pay your charity plus the 50% top up from Sir Tom Hunter.

Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk Weekend

What will happen during the weekend?

Make sure you have printed out your challenge resources from your Virtual Supporter Pack including Challenge bibs, Kiltwalk signage and more. Get ready to don some tartan and you’re ready to go! Keep an eye on your emails and Kiltwalk social channels for plenty of entertainment as you walk. Remember to upload pictures from your challenge to social media and tag in the Kiltwalk.

Am I allowed to walk in a group?
Household groups can complete their walking challenge together. Before setting out, please refer to the latest Government guidelines.

What should I take with me?
We always recommend taking a supply of walker and snacks to keep you going on your walk. Depending on the weather forecast, you may consider wearing layers and packing a waterproof jacket. If you are intending on doing a longer walk, make sure that you wear comfortable worn-in shoes and carry blister packs.

If you are intending on completing your challenge on your own, always make sure that a family member or friend knows your route and when you are walking. We always advise carrying a mobile phone should you need help.

2020 Dundee Kiltwalker Information

Why is the event cancelled?
Ensuring the safety of our walkers and everyone involved in Kiltwalk is our top priority. Factors surrounding the COVID19 outbreak and a closing window of available dates to reschedule, due to reduced hours of daylight in late 2020, makes it impossible to reschedule our Dundee event.

Does my registration for the Dundee Kiltwalk entitle me to take part in the Virtual event?
Yes. All Dundee Kiltwalkers are automatically entered into the Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk. So no extra costs or registration form, you’re already set up to take part. All you need to do is keep the fundraising going and complete your Virtual Challenge – leave the rest to us.

You will soon receive your Virtual Support pack from us by email that will include many resources to support your fundraising and bring your virtual challenge to life. It includes Virtual Kiltwalk Challenge bibs, Event Signage, Social Stickers, Finishers Certificate signed by Sir Tom and much more.

Charity donation - If you were signed up to the Big Stroll or Mighty Stride, we will donate £18 to your charity due to the difference in registration fees.

Other options - We recognise that the Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk and/or the Charity donation option might not suit you. To consider other options available to you, visit this web page for more information. Please action these options by Friday 19th June.

Can I change my distance?
Yes, you can alter your distance to suit you and your local area. The important thing is to keep the fundraising going for your chosen charity. When selecting your route, please adhere to the latest Government and social distancing guidelines.

I’m unable to take part in the Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk, what are my options?
You can complete the Virtual challenge any time on the run up to the 3rd-5th July but if that doesn’t suit you, we have emailed you your options. Alternatively, you can visit our 2020 Dundee Kiltwalker options page here and complete the Dundee Kiltwalk Options form by Friday 19th June.

Can I get a refund?
We would love you to continue fundraising for your chosen charity on the Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk but appreciate that option may not suit you. If you were signed up for the 2020 Dundee Kiltwalk and would like to request a refund, please visit this page info page and then complete the Dundee Kiltwalker Option form by Friday 19th June.

Charity FAQs

Are you a charity and have some questions? Read through our Charity FAQ's

Does our charity need to register with the Kiltwalk to take part in the challenge?

We have over 25,000 charities on our list so there is a good chance you are already part of the Kiltwalk family. If your charity is not registered with us please contact us via e-mail at contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk

Do we need to set up campaigns or pages?

No, as per a normal Kiltwalk event we have set up the campaign and the participant will automatically get a page set up and sent to them via Everyday Hero.

Where does the money donated go to?

The monies will initially be paid to the Kiltwalk and we will forward the monies along with the additional top up from The Hunter Foundation within 3 days of the event date.

Do we have to pay any fees?

No, the Kiltwalk is free for Charities to take part and any online fundraising donor fees are either covered by the donor or The Kiltwalk.

Do we also get the Gift Aid?

No, Gift Aid is retained by the Kiltwalk to help cover our running costs and payment processing fees.

Is there a charity toolkit?

Yes, this will be available from Friday 12th June. It includes information and a suite of promotional resources for you including logos, A5 digital flyer, social tiles and images.

Will I receive the data from the fundraisers and donors to follow up?

You will get access to a charity dashboard where you will see your participants' data. You will not receive the donors data as the donation is being paid to the Kiltwalk in the first instance.

Is the virtual event replacing the Dundee Kiltwalk?

Yes. Factors surrounding the COVID19 outbreak and a closing window of available dates to reschedule, due to reduced hours of daylight in late 2020, makes it impossible to reschedule our Dundee event. Nothing stops the Kiltwalk, so our event has turned Virtual!

Will there be virtual events for the other postponed / cancelled events?

We are closely monitoring the pandemic situation here in Scotland and await Government and Health authority guidance on larger gatherings. We are still very hopeful that we can stage Kiltwalk events and help Scotland’s charities and as soon as we know, you will too.

Can I promote the Dundee Virtual Event to supporters out with the Dundee, Angus & Fife area?

The virtual event is designed primarily for participants living in Dundee, Angus and Fife, however it is open to everyone. We kindly ask that Charities promoting the event focus it on supporters living in those areas as we are still hopeful that the Edinburgh event will take place on the 13th September and the Glasgow & Aberdeen events can be rescheduled later in the year.

If you have any further queries on this, please email contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk

What is a discount code?

A discount code is where a charity can pay a % (of their choice) of the registration fee on behalf of the participant.

How do I purchase codes?

Please contact us at contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk for an order form.

Can I change Mighty stride/big stroll codes already purchased to Virtual Kiltwalk codes?

Yes, for any codes used and depending on the % discount you have offered we will arrange a refund to you for the Dundee event. Please contact us at contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk for further information.
