Scotland's Virtual Kiltwalk

Thank you for taking part!

That's a wrap!

Thank you to everyone who took part in Scotland's Virtual Kiltwalk on the 23 - 25 April. Whether you walked, ran or even boogied your way to the finish line we are so grateful for your fundraising efforts for your chosen Scottish Charity.

The fundraising totals are in!

We’ve been overwhelmed by you and your donors’ generosity during such challenging times. That’s why The Hunter Foundation adds 50% to your fundraising. It’s phenomenal.

In the face of social distancing and all the uncertainty, the Kiltwalk community raised an astonishing…. £6.1 MILLION for the charities you care about! That’s £4.1 million raised by Kiltwalkers and the 50% extra of £2.05 million from The Hunter Foundation for a total of 1,055 Scottish charities who need these funds more than ever.

Fundraising has officially closed and the Kiltwalk team have now processed your donations and all fundraising payments have been made to your chosen charities!

Sir Tom and the team would like to thank you for your Kiltwalk Kindness.

(The 50% fundraising top up limit for this current year 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021 is £5000 per walker or donor. This is a cumulative limit for all Kiltwalk events in the above period. All fundraising top ups are subject to deadlines and Trustee approval).

Everyone signed up could win a car!

FAQs

Participant FAQs

What is a Virtual Kiltwalk?

A Kiltwalk challenge for you to complete separately at home or in your local area. Similar to a Kiltwalk, you can don some tartan and complete a walking challenge or any challenge you wish to raise money for your chosen charity and Sir Tom Hunter will top up all funds raised by 50%*.

We have suggested you complete your challenge over the weekend of 23rd – 25th April but you can complete it before if you wish. All fundraising must be collected in by 3rd May and we will then pay your charity plus the 50% top up* from Sir Tom Hunter.

*The 50% fundraising top up limit for this current year 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021 is £5000 per walker or donor. This is a cumulative limit for all Kiltwalk events in the above period. All fundraising top ups are subject to deadlines and Trustee approval.

Do I get a refund if I withdraw from the event?

If you are not able to take part in the Virtual event please email us at contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk and a member of our team will be in touch.

When does registration close?

Registration will close at 3pm on Sunday 25th April.

Do I get a walker pack?

You will receive a Digital Challenge Pack by email that will include many resources to support your fundraising such as Challenge bibs, Event signage, Social stickers, family entertainment and much more.

How do I access my online fundraising page?

When you register you will be sent out a confirmation email which will include a link to your online fundraising page on JustGiving. This allows you to share the link to collect in your fundraising and monitor funds as you go.

Remember to update your profile picture and update your story on the page so that your donors understand why you're fundraising. Did you know that fundraising with personalised pages receives far more donations? Fact!

Can I send in funds collected offline?

Yes you can. Send us your completed paper Kiltwalk Sponsorship forms and pay your sponsorship money by cheque, made payable to ‘The Kiltwalk’ or by bank transfer, with a payment reference that includes your walker ID (you can find your walker ID on your confirmation email).

What is the fundraising deadline?

In order for your charity to receive the fundraising when they need it most we ask that you have your sponsorship paid to us by midnight on the 3rd May.

If you are having problems making that deadline, please contact the Kiltwalk team at contactus@thekiltwalk.co.uk well in advance of the deadline and we will work with you to ensure your charity can receive the much-needed funds as soon as practicable.

When does my chosen charity receive the fundraising?

We aim to start the payments to the chosen charities as soon as possible following on from the fundraising closing i.e 3rd May. Remember every penny you raise will be topped up by 50%* thanks to Sir Tom Hunter.

*The 50% fundraising top up limit for this current year 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021 is £5000 per walker or donor. This is a cumulative limit for all Kiltwalk events in the above period. All fundraising top ups are subject to deadlines and Trustee approval.

What will happen during the weekend?

Make sure you have printed out your challenge resources from your Challenge Pack including Challenge bibs, Kiltwalk signage and more. Get ready to don some tartan and you’re ready to go! Keep an eye on your emails and Kiltwalk social channels for plenty of entertainment as you walk. Remember to upload pictures from your challenge to social media and tag in the Kiltwalk. Join the Virtual Facebook Group too to connect with other walkers. Best of luck!

Am I allowed to walk in a group?

That will depend on what stage we are at in the current pandemic. We suggest monitoring your local areas Government and social distancing guidelines. Triple check before setting out and ensure you adhere to those rules at all times during your challenge.

What should I take with me?

That will depend on what challenge you are planning to take on! For longer walks, we always recommend taking a supply of water and snacks to keep you going. Depending on the weather forecast, you may consider wearing layers and packing a waterproof jacket, blister packs and ensure you have comfortable, worn-in shoes on.

If you are intending on completing your challenge on your own, always make sure that a family member or friend knows your route and when you are walking. We always advise carrying a fully charged mobile phone.
