The streets of Dumfries turned tartan on Saturday (November 9) after 500 people took part in The Kiltwalk’s first-ever Pop-Up event.

It was the first-ever Pop-Up Kiltwalk!

The six-mile walk saw people from South West Scotland set off from Dock Park at 9AM, walking through Cardenbridge, before looping back into town and finishing at the iconic bandstand in the park.

Once again, Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation added a phenomenal 40% to all funds raised at the pop-up event, meaning that for every £1 raised by walkers, £1.40 is donated to charity. A total of 80 charities, mainly from Dumfries and Galloway, will benefit from the funds raised by the walkers of all ages.

Leading the walk were Carrie and Peter McFadzean, with their 6-month-old son Seth, from Dunscore. Baby Seth was diagnosed with a condition so rare that it affects only six other people in the world. The condition, called Tetrasomy 18p Mosaicism, sees him facing developmental delays, learning difficulties, seizures and eye, heart and kidney problems. Carrie, Peter and Seth were joined by their wider family who also took on the six-mile walk.

Kiltwalk CEO Paul Cooney, said: “What a day! The people of South West Scotland came-out in big numbers and their efforts will raise tens of thousands of pounds for 77 charities they care about. And we’re grateful to Sir Tom Hunter for his Kiltwalk kindness boosting this fundraising by a massive 40%. Dumfries and the surrounding areas, decked in tartan today, have taken Kiltwalk to their hearts as they stepped-out for people less fortunate than themselves.”
