The first-ever Kiltwalk Highlight

In this series, we will be meeting someone from our thriving Kiltwalk community and sharing their best Kiltwalk moments.

Kickstarting our 'Kiltwalk Highlight' is regular Kiltwalker and walking enthusiast Julie Strachan who completed all four Kiltwalk's in 2019. If anyone knows the Kiltwalk events, this lady does! Hear about her many Kiltwalk highlights and why she is excited about getting back out there.

Name: Julie Strachan

Occupation: Estimating Assistant at JKR Contractors in Aberdeen

Charity you support and why?

In 2017 my brother James (Jim) Smith was diagnosed with cancer. He loved Kiltwalk and supported his charity TACC. After he passed away, my husband and I decided to do the Kiltwalk in his memory.

This year we are supporting AFC Community Trust for all the amazing work they do in the local community such as walking football, dementia groups, and many more worthwhile local projects.

An interesting fact about yourself?

My husband and I lost over 12 stone between us between Glasgow Kiltwalk 2018 and Glasgow Kiltwalk 2019. Another fact, we started the Dundee Kiltwalk 2019 at 7am in the morning so we could finish in time to get to Dens Park to watch Aberdeen play Dundee in the cup ... thankfully Aberdeen won!

Best ever Kiltwalk Highlight?

Crossing the finish line in our first ever Kiltwalk, Glasgow 2018. We crossed it hand-in-hand with our pal Jock McKay who lost his wife Michele to cancer a month after we lost my brother.

What are you looking forward to the most about the next Kiltwalk?

Meeting up with our Kiltwalk family, the old friends and the friends we haven’t made yet. Listening to the inspirational stories of everyone walking.

Thank you to Julie for taking part and keep your eyes peeled for the next Highlight coming to you soon!

ALL FUNDRAISING GOES TO THE CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE
